The UK’s 10-Year Healthcare Revolution
And Why Canada Can’t Afford to Wait

Jul 15, 2025

In July 2025, the National Health Service (NHS) in England released Fit for the Future — a bold 10-year plan to transform healthcare delivery across the country. It marks a radical shift from a hospital-centric, reactive system to one that is community-based, digitally enabled, and proactively focused on prevention.

Reading through the plan is like looking into a mirror.

The challenges that pushed the UK to act — an aging population, overwhelmed hospitals, primary care bottlenecks, and rising costs — are the same challenges we face here in Canada. And their proposed solutions align almost exactly with the principles we’ve been advancing through Comprehensive Healthcare at Home (CHAH).

Three Transformational Shifts at The Core of The NHS Plan

1. From Hospital to Community: The NHS will create Neighbourhood Health Centres in every community and shift a significant share of funding away from hospitals toward community-based and home-based care. By 2035, they aim to eliminate hospital outpatient clinics as we know them.

2. From Analogue to Digital: The NHS App will become a comprehensive digital health platform, enabling remote triage, real-time wearable integration, and universal patient records. AI scribes, automated scheduling, and virtual-first care are front and center.

3. From Sickness to Prevention: Predictive genomics, AI diagnostics, and wearable tech will drive a shift toward early detection and proactive care. Public health regulation will work in tandem with personalized, tech-enabled coaching to improve population health outcomes.

Canada’s Parallel Crisis — and Opportunity

If you swapped out “NHS” for “Canada,” every line of the crisis would still hold true. We too are facing:

  • Record wait times for hospital beds and specialists
  • Over 6.5 million Canadians without a family doctor
  • A demographic tidal wave that will crest in 2031, when every baby boomer is 65+
  • A workforce crisis, especially in primary care and long-term care
  • A lack of investment in preventive, home-based solutions

Yet while the UK is responding with clarity and ambition, Canada continues to drift — hampered by patchwork policy and short-term fixes.

Comprehensive Healthcare at Home: A Canadian Blueprint Already in Motion

The good news? We don’t have to start from scratch. At Stay at Home Nursing (SAHN) and CHAH Technology, we’ve already begun building a Canadian model that mirrors and, in some cases, even leads the NHS strategy:

  • Neighbourhood Care Units: Small, AI-enabled care teams led by nurses delivering coordinated care at home — from preventive screening to post-acute care.
  • CHAH AI Care: Our remote monitoring and predictive analytics platform identify health risks before they become a crisis — from infections to falls to cognitive decline.
  • Unified Health Records: We’re advocating systems that give patients ownership of their health data, enabling seamless coordination across providers.
  • Workforce Empowerment: Our Care Unit model transforms PSWs and nurses from gig workers into empowered professionals — stable, trained, and central to care.

As outlined in our white paper, Comprehensive Healthcare at Home isn’t a theory — it’s a tested, scalable blueprint for Canada’s own 10-year transformation.

What Canada Can Learn — and Lead

The NHS plan is a validation of what we’ve been advocating: home-first care, predictive analytics, empowered caregivers, and data-driven delivery.  While it inspires, it also challenges us to act.

We must ask: Why wait until our system is in total collapse before acting?

The need for robust healthcare services in the home has long been called for and anticipated. Canada doesn’t need another decade of pilot programs. We need a national strategy — a modern Medicare 2.0 — that puts people before institutions, and prevention before crisis.

We have the tools. We have the evidence. What we need now is the leadership.

Join the Movement

CHAH is more than a company: it’s a call to action. A call to redesign healthcare in Canada from the ground up — with our homes as the foundation.

We invite healthcare leaders, policymakers, innovators—and the people this system serves—to join us.

The NHS has drawn the roadmap.  Let’s show Canada can lead the way forward.
